New Game Request Form

Valid e-mail addresses are not required, but are useful in Virtual Chess for 3 reasons:
  1. To notify you and your opponent via e-mail of the direct link to your board once your board has been set up and you've made your first move(s). If the List grows and gets cluttered, having auto e-mail notification will prevent you from having to check through the list yourself to attempt to locate your board(s) among all the others in the Current Games List.
  2. To send automatic e-mail notification to your opponent each time you move. That way, if long periods go by between moves, nobody has to keep checking back to look at the board to see if their opponent has moved and if it's their turn or not. You'll be automatically notified. If you do not provide a valid e-mail address (addresses), then you can not receive automatic e-mail notification of your opponent's moves.
  3. Having a valid e-mail address will also allow you to type a message, and that message will be automatically inserted within the automatic e-mail notification that is sent to your opponent when you move.
Reason #3 above is important because:
  1. Since the Board will let stalemate conditions slip past unnoticed, you can "discuss" game resignation within your message
  2. You can notify your opponent immediately that he/she has been checkmated, saving unneeded attempts at moving if the opponent doesn't realize this immediately (yes.. that can happen)
  3. You can swear at each other and say other neat and nifty things, almost in "real time"
* E-mail addresses are confidential and are only used for game play

Note: The Board won't check for stalemate or checkmate positions. You'll know when you've been checkmated because you won't be able to move out of it, but the Board will let stalemate conditions slip past unnoticed. It's up to the players to keep track of this, and then elect whether it's time to "resign"...

Resigning: When in stalemate or checkmate you can "resign". To do so, "jump" your king onto the opponent's king. You will see a (Yes/No) prompt for resignation confirmation at the very top of the Control Panel. If you select "No" then gameplay continues. If you select "Yes" then your opponent wins and the Control Panel will be unusable for moves from that point forward and will simply display either "white or black won", in place of the "move" and "password" fields. If you decide to resign and you have a password set, then after "jumping" your king onto the opponent's king, you must re-enter your password once again after ticking off "Yes" for resignation confirmation, or the resignation will not be recognized. Speaking of passwords...

Passwords: Moves can be password protected. This prevents onlookers from messing with your pieces and screwing up your game. Also, each player will then have their own password to stop them from fiddling with each other's pieces. Unless you specifically set them, a game starts without passwords. The first time a player makes a valid move accompanied by a password, it's set and fixed for the rest of the game. Thereafter any attempt to move without the right password is rejected. So remember it!! If you don't submit a password (and you haven't already set one), no password is expected. If you don't set a password and if some slimy miscreant web-troll happens across your game board he/she can set the password him/herself, effectively locking you out of your own game. So... setting a password is definitely recommended.
